No city in the world is as dazzlingly different as Venice, a seaport built on more than 100 islands. In this magnificent Renaissance realm of canals, bridges and merchants on the Adriatic, gondoliers stand up to sing while they row. Even the buses are boats! You'll never forget the thrill of your first magical moments in St. Mark's Square or being part of the aquatic parade that never ends along the Grand Canal....
Bari is the capital of the Apulia region of Italy. It's the mezzogiorno's (Italy's south) largest city after Naples, and a bustling commercial center and port.
Bari is the largest and most important city of Apulia (even larger than Lecce) and stands on the Adriatic coast. It's mainly famous for being one of the exit doors of Italy, where travellers leave Ion ferries for neighboring countries. The city authorities, however, have been trying to raise its tourism profile and awareness on Bari's old town, which has retained its ancient Mediaeval plan and contains many historic buildings and sites. The old town was the heart of pre-Roman and Roman Bari and it is now possible to find several hip bars and restaurants open "from dusk till dawn" in this once dark and unsafe zone.
PLACES TO SEE:
Bari, especially in the ancient part of the city, called Bari Vecchia by locals. It's a beautiful mediaeval quarter in which there are a lot of important churches. The cathedral of Saint Nicolaus, for instance, has a gold ceiling and a crypt.
There is a small town - 20 minutes outside of Bari named "adelfia - Montrone". The patron saint is San Trifone. Nove 9 is the start of a three day celebration. On Nov 9 is the early evening a giant beautiful balloon is release which signifies the start of the festival. On the 10th, the statue of San Trifone is brought out of the church and paraded around the town. Bands from all over Italy come and perform on the outdoor stage. Fireworks are displayed throughout the evening into the early morning. The different men's club compete on which club can have the biggest, loudest and spectacular display. Vendors surround the town with goods, food and gifts. Last year I counted over 200 parked buses from all over southern Italy. It really is a popular celebration. If you google Adelfia, Montrone, Bari, italy, you will be able to read more about the festival. You may have to glick on "translate" on a couple of the websites that are displayed in Italian. Near the fishing village of Katakolon sits Olympia, one of the most important religious centers of ancient Greece. This fascinating destination is the site of the original Olympic games and the Temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Since the modern Games were revived in 1896, the Olympic torchbearers return to Olympia every two years to ignite the flame, which is then carried to the site of the next Olympic games.
Stadium
More than 40,000 spectators could fill the stadium to witness contests ranging from foot races to the pentathlon. But, it was also a place of neutrality where people of neighboring independent states could meet, compete, worship and honor one another for their accomplishments.
Temple of Zeus
These ruins of massive dimension are still an impressive sight. Only a bit smaller than the Parthenon in Athens, it was a classic temple in the Doric style, first built in the fifth century, BC.
Prytaneion
Other Olympia landmarks include the Prytaneion, a complex where winners were feted and where the eternal flame for the original Olympic games once burned.

Known as the "Black Pearl of the Aegean," Santorini has one of the most dramatic backdrops of cliffs, sea and sky in the world. The island was not always crescent-shaped as it is today. A volcanic eruption during the Bronze Age caused the middle of this once-circular island to sink, leaving an enormous sea-filled crater flanked by mammoth cliffs. This cataclysmic event is the reason for many of the island's remarkable features -- from its black-sand beaches and exquisite wines, to its fascinating archeological sites. Places to see
Akrotiri - Visit Akrotiri, where Minoan Pompey, a well-preserved archeological site from the Bronze Age, was excavated. This ancient city was covered in pumice when the island's volcano erupted. Some believe these ruins to be the lost city of Atlantis.
Santo Winery - Santorini's climate and volcanic soil allows for an exceptional grape-growing region. The Santo Winery sits at the peak of the cliff-like caldera and offers superb views.
Fira - The largest town on Santorini is a cluster of whitewashed buildings clinging to volcanic cliffs and at sunset it could perhaps be the most beautiful place on Earth.

Part of the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea, Mykonos is a dazzling destination filled with whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and beautiful beaches set against an equally striking blue sky. Seen from a distance, the island chain of the Cyclades resembles a necklace on deep blue satin. Once you set foot on Mykonos, you may well determine it to be the crown jewel.
Places to see
The Windmills - the windmills are the landmark of Mykonos.
Little Venice - a district in Mykonos City, famous for its colourful balconies.
Petros the Pelican can be found at the waterfront. Originally the pelican was found after a storm back in the 1950s. After Petros died he was so popular that a new pelican was introduced as a successor. Now there are two pelicans inhabiting the island, who can sometimes be found up in the town as well as at the port.
Archaeological Museum of Mykonos - the exhibition of the museum includes a large number of vases, ranging from the prehistoric to the late Hellenistic period (25th-1st century B.C.), grave statues, stelae and funerary urns from Rheneia, and very few finds from Mykonos.
The Hora - The Hora or main village of Mykonos is filled with a maze of tight-winding streets, perhaps, designed to confuse invaders or simply serve as a windbreak to deflect Aegean squalls.
The Beach - With more than 20 accessible sandy beaches, there's plenty of scenic coastline, water sports and sunbathing to be had by all.
Delos - A short ferry ride from Mykonos, the tiny island of Delos is an archeological treasure. Many temples and monuments built over the span of a millennium can still be viewed today.
