The Dambulla Cave Temple is a monastery on a massive rock towering above the plains of Dambulla. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the best preserved of Sri Lanka\'s cave complexes and has been a sacred place for over two centuries. The complex comprises over 80 caves, five of which are the important ones with over 150 statues mainly of Buddha, and of Sri Lankan kings, gods and goddesses.
