The hotel is an old royal palace that is more than 100 years old; it was earlier a jungle retreat and the hunting lodge of the previous rulers of Jaipur. The palace is faced towards the north and it overlooks the ancient temple and the old Ramgarh Fort. The palace is spread across a total area of 20 acres and the entire building is painted a red colour and that is where the hotel derives its name. The palace's construction began in the late 18th century; it was started by Maharajah Swai Madho Singhji.
